Bujinkan Ninjutsu / Budo Taijutsu

& Gracie / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

The Yeo Dojo sets out to improve an individuals confidence in all situations through the mastery of ones body. This is on a physical and then a spiritual level.

Through the Bujinkan system you will learn efficient standup techniques with both weapons and un-armed. This style is over 1000 years old and has been tested during the feudal period of Japan. There are six schools of Jiu-Jitsu and three schools of Ninjutsu.

The Gracie / Brazilian Jiu Jitsu system will teach you probably the best ground fighting system there is. It will also give you a reality check as to what will work and what won't through sparring. If you don't spar how do you know if a technique will work? This system will also teach you to flow with your techniques as well as drastically improving your physical fitness.

"95% of all fights go to the ground and yet probably only 5% of martial artists are adequately prepared, Gracie Jiu Jitsu seeks to redress this balance" - Rickson Gracie.

These two styles together offer any individual a fully rounded practical knowledge of martial arts. Most styles specialise in either kicking and punching or grappling. To be truly rounded as a martial artist, you must know both!

History

When Jigaro Kano first created Judo from many of the stand up styles of Jiu Jitsu, his Kodokan team beat many of the older Jiu Jitsu schools at a famous tournament at the Tokyo police headquarters in 1886. The Kodokan team won many competitions through their throws and stand up technique. However in 1900 the team challenged the Fusen Ryu who were experts in ground fighting (ne waza). For the first time in 8 years the Kodokan team was beaten. After that ground fighting was incorporated into the Judo syllabus. It was at this time that Kodakan Judo arrived in Brazil and was taught to the Gracie family, when ground fighting was new and fresh in the teacher's minds. In 1912 many Jiu Jitsu leaders met with Kano to finalise the Kodokan syllabus. One of these leaders was Takamatsu Sensei who was referred to as a weapons master from the Kukishin Ryu. For those of you who don't know, Takamatsu Sensei was Hatsumi Sensei's teacher.
